CLEO/QELS and New Product Release
June 8, 2007 - Axcel Photonics would like to thank all of those who took the time to visit our booth this year at the
CLEO/QELS Conference in Baltimore. We deeply appreciate your feedback and inquiries that helped make the show a
success for us.
We had a successful show at Laser 2007 in Munich, Germany. Booth B1.243-245.
While at the CLEO/QELS Conference Axcel Announced the release of two new products, our 8 W 100-micron emitting
aperture laser diode on submount and our 9 W HHL Fiber Pigtailed Laser Diode with 400-micron fiber core.
A Big Thanks to Everyone from Photonics West
February 1, 2007 - Axcel would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit our booth this year at Photonics West in San
Jose, CA. The convention this year was bustling with activity, and was an excellent indication that the Photonics industry is
booming, and 2007 is already forseen to be Axcel's biggest and best year to date.
Construction Zone – Renovations of our Marlborough Facility Completed
October 30, 2006 – Renovations of the Axcel Photonics Marlborough facility are completed. From this recent construction
Axcel gained a new atrium and customer greeting area, several new offices, additional laboratory and testing space, as
well as a new main conference room. Axcel encourages all of its local and not-so-local customers to stop by and see our
new renovations.

These new spec sheets include new color photos, data graphs, and operating considerations that were not
part of our old format.
Expanding our Quality Product Line – 850nm Lasers
September 13, 2006 – Axcel Photonics has added 850nm lasers to both its standard single-mode and multi-
mode product line. Axcel has increased production at 850nm to meet the current demands for applications in
medical and remote sensing fields. Production at Axcel has always been customer driven, and will continue to
grow and adapt as the demands of our customers change and grow.
Axcel is currently offering up to 3W from a 100µm multi-mode emitter on a C-mount, Q-mount, or chip on 4mm
sub-mount, and up to 1.5W in a 9mm TO-Can package. In single-mode, Axcel is offering up to 150mW from a
chip on 1.5mm sub-mount, 5.6mm, or 9mm TO-Can. Fiber pigtailed modules are also available upon request
as well.It is Axcel's hope to introduce higher brightness and higher power 850nm lasers in the near future.
Bigger and Better Sub-Mounts for Bigger and Brighter Chips
August 1, 2006 – In order to better accommodate for longer and more powerful products in the future, Axcel
Photonics has released a new, optional sub-mount option that is 4mm in length. The new sub-mount is flat
and can hold up to a 4mm long chip. It is the hope that this sub-mount will be the future home of Axcel's 10W
9XXnm 100µm and 5W 808nm 100µm emitter chips, which are future projects planned for early 2007.
Raising the Bar for High Power Diode Lasers, 30W from a single chip
July 27, 2006 – After rigorous testing and reliability tests, Axcel Photonics has qualified its 808nm 25W
1000µm emitter chip at 30W of CW output, making Axcel's most powerful laser even brighter. Axcel is offering
all of this power on an industry standard CS-mount so it can easily be incorporated into our customer's
existing laser bar applications.
Current lifetime tests show a MTTF of greater than 60,000 hours, or roughly 6.8 years of operation, making it
ideal for high power/long life applications in solid state pumping, defense, and commercial printing.
High Power Fiber Pigtailed Lasers at 808nm/980nm
June 1, 2006 – Axcel has added 808nm and 980nm fiber pigtailed laser modules with up to 7.5W of output
power from a 200µm fiber to our standard product line. All of these modules come with internal thermo-electric
cooler, photodiode, and thermistor in a 9-pin high-heat-load configuration.
Axcel Releases first 25W single chip Laser
May 1, 2006 – Axcel announces its first 808nm 25W 1000µm emitter laser, making this new addition the most
powerful laser offered by Axcel to date. Initial burn-in and qualification tests show MTTF of >20,000 hours and
efforts to increase power output and reliability are planned.
AuSn Solder now available
February 13, 2006 – Axcel is now offering AuSn solder as an option to all orders. The higher melting
temperature of AuSn solder offers greater flexibility when incorporating our sub-mounts into a customer's
device/application. It is the hope of Axcel to offer AuSn solder in all products in the future.
A New Member of our Management Team
January 1, 2006 – Axcel Photonics, Inc. CEO Jim Hsieh has appointed Peter Kang as Executive Assistant to
the CEO. Peter brings many years of management experience to the Axcel Team. Under the leadership of
President Wei Gao and Peter, Axcel predicts that 2006 will be another year of growth and expansion.
10W 400µm emitter at 808nm/980nm
December 15, 2005 – In order to maintain its place on the cutting edge of laser diode technology, Axcel
Photonics has just released 10W 400µm emitter at both 808nm and 980nm. These chips will be available on
an industry standard C-mount. Lifetime tests have shown that these lasers have a MTTF of > 40,000 hours.
New Levels of Brightness from our 14-pin Modules
September 1, 2005 – Axcel Photonics has released its first 14-pin butterfly module with 3W of power from a
100µm fiber. Each module comes standard with an internal thermo-electric cooler, photodiode, and
thermistor. Different end-fiber options are available as well. This new module will initially be available at
808nm and eventually at 980nm.
Axcel Photonics Announces New Ownership Under J. Jim Hsieh
MARLBOROUGH, MA, March 31, 2005 – Axcel Photonics, Inc., today announced the sale of the company to Dr.
J. Jim Hsieh, founder of Lasertron and pioneer in the field of fiber-optic lasers. In addition, Dr. Hsieh will take
the helm as Chief Executive Officer and has appointed Frank Hsieh as Executive Vice President in charge of
sales and marketing. Dr. Wei Gao, founder of Axcel Photonics, will continue his duties as President.
"We plan to position Axcel as the world's leading manufacturer of high power diode lasers in terms of
performance, reliability, and quality," proclaimed Dr. Hsieh. "Axcel has the technology to produce extremely
high power products. The next step is to make these readily available in the marketplace."
"With the industry's founding father as the company's leader, investor, and visionary, we are poised to set the
standard for the next generation of products," commented Dr. Gao. "His forty-plus years of semiconductor
experience, no-nonsense business approach, and tremendous respect and credibility among industry peers
puts us in very good hands."
"Other key employees will also own a share of the company, making it one of the few laser component
companies that is wholly owned by its management and personnel," added Frank Hsieh. "The company will
thus be able to concentrate on building long-term relationships with customers and focus on meeting their
needs, rather than feeling pressure to meet quarterly sales targets."
